CARIBOU, Maine — Two individuals from the St. John Valley were indicted by the Aroostook County grand jury last week after allegedly providing alcohol that led to the death of a minor in 2011.

Aroostook County District Attorney Todd Collins said Jill M. Pelletier, 30, of Madawaska was indicted for furnishing liquor to a minor, allowing a minor to possess or consume liquor and unsworn falsification.

Joshua M. Pelletier, 23, of St. John Plantation also was indicted for furnishing liquor to a minor and falsifying physical evidence.

According to Collins, the two were charged with the Class C felonies stemming from the incident in June 2011.

Collins said that charges were lodged because “the minor to whom a place to consume alcohol was provided and to whom alcohol was provided” died in a fatal car crash directly resulting from the consumption of the alcohol provided.

“Although they were not behind the wheel of a vehicle, they are criminally responsible for creating the circumstances under which a fatal OUI occurred,” said Collins.
