GRAY, Maine — The record-breaking warmth in northern New England is coming to an end.

Concord, N.H., had five consecutive days of hot weather records this week, but on Friday the temperature is coming up shy of the record of 80 degrees for the date. In Portland, Maine, it looks like another record did fall on Friday, but the warmth is coming to an end.

Forecaster Margaret Curtis from the National Weather Service says a red flag warning was issued Friday because of high winds, dry conditions and loss of snow cover. That means the forest fire danger is extremely high, and she’s recommending that people avoid any outdoor burning.

Looking ahead, it will be cooler and cloudy this weekend.
