BELFAST, Maine — Costumed student thespians from the Troy Howard Middle School sang their way around Belfast Thursday afternoon in an advertising blitz for their upcoming show, “The Music Man Junior.”

“We’re sort of showing off, and getting people to come,” said 13-year-old Annie Wirth, a seventh grader who is portraying Gracie Shinn.

Director Jason Bannister said that the theater group got creative after the local weekly newspaper shut down recently.

“We have to do advertising,” he said. “Hopefully, this will strum up some business.”

“The Music Man Junior” will be presented by the Center Stage Ensemble at 7 p.m. Friday March 23, Saturday, March 24, Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31. It also will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25, and Sunday, April 1. All performances are at the Troy Howard Middle School and tickets cost $5 for adults, free for students.
