Sugarbaker helps Colby baseball team earn split

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Junior lefthander Nate Sugarbaker pitched a complete game four-hitter to lead the Colby College baseball team to a 4-2 win over Oneonta State in the first game of a doubleheader Monday.

Oneonta won the second game 5-2.

Sugarbaker struck out two and walked two for Colby, now 3-3. Justin Schroeder hit a two-run single for the Mules in second inning, Mike Mastrocola added a run-scoring single in the third and Jake Kramer had an RBI single in the sixth.

Oneonta scored three unearned runs in the seventh inning to beat the Mules in the second game.

Kevin Galvin had a double and RBI single for Colby and Nate Ellis doubled.

Softball

Colby drops two

At Clermont, Fla., Benedictine University and Oneonta State each posted victories over Colby College of Waterville.

The Ravens downed the Mules 10-6 and the Red Dragons won 6-1.

Erica Pulford doubled, tripled and knocked in three runs to pace Colby (1-3) against Benedictine. Katie Graichen posted a double and two singles while Kelly Roth and Carolyn Bennett added two singles each.

Alex Daviera singled twice and knocked in two runs for Benedictine (3-3). Kelly Mieszala and Brittany Adcox each rapped a two-run double.

In the second game, Lindsay Paterson had an RBI groundout for Colby.
