LIMERICK, Maine — A teenager was killed early Friday morning when the car she was driving crashed on Route 5 in Limerick.
The victim was identified as Libby Lofgren, 18, of Newfield, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Maine State Police troopers said speed and alcohol are likely factors in the crash, which was reported shortly after 1 a.m., McCausland said.
Lofgren, who was traveling alone, died at the accident scene. Her driver’s license had been suspended since Jan. 28 for a number of prior convictions.
Troopers said her 2004 Pontiac left the roadway at a high rate of speed, became airborne and slammed into a tree.
