Outlook: The Black Bears open their northern schedule with the first of four games in the event hosted by Seton Hall. UMaine won two of its last four to close out its southern trip. The Bears need some of their veterans to swing the bat better and must shore up the defense. The Highlanders, coached by former UMaine assistant Mike Cole, have dropped four straight, including Wednesday’s 12-7 loss at No. 24 Wake Forest. NJIT is averaging 7.3 runs per game, but has given up 6.3 rpg with a 6.75 team ERA. RH Shaun Coughlin (1-1, 4.19, 11) starts Saturday’s first game against Fordham and RH Jeff Gibbs (0-3, 12.83, 12) gets Sunday’s start against the same Rams. RH Mike Connolly (0-2, 9.22, 16) is a possible starter in Saturday’s second game against Seton Hall.
