If downtown Belfast is a slum and blight area, I hate to think what that makes downtown Augusta.

  • What a scam.  Declare any place a slum and you get government cheese.

Good lord, why should I be happy to throw funds at some far away blight problem. Let the owners of the joints fix it up by their own Reeboks. Very distasteful usage of funding.

I, a conservative democrat, believe that this is outrageous.  It is a ridiculous use of precious tax resources and gives rise to claims of bloat and waste concerning government largess.  Meanwhile Belfast has enough money to steal some peoples property and make a walking trail along the waterfront?  Geez.  Put the money into Mainecare and actually help someone in need.  That I can support.

  • Ellsworth tried this a few years back to get free funds, didn’t work.

Long-term loan sounds like a better approach.
