Belfast program to address Midcoast conservation

BELFAST, Maine — Professional ecologist Janet McMahon will present a program on “Connecting Habitat, Trails and Health, A Conservation Vision for Midcoast Maine,” at the Belfast Free Public Library Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The presentation is part of a monthly series sponsored by the Belfast Bay Watershed Coalition. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.

McMahon’s talk will focus on a vision she calls bold and attainable. The goal is to double the amount of conserved land in Midcoast Maine, and to connect both communities and farms to a network of trails that will support the health of human and non-human communities.

McMahon helps land trusts, conservation organizations, state agencies and private landowners to prepare natural resource inventories and management plans, and to identify conservation-focus areas and ecological reserves.
