Cancer run-walk fundraiser nets $250,000

The Associated Press

SACO, Maine — More than 3,000 people helped raise nearly $250,000 for cancer research in Saco this weekend.

The 14th annual Mary’s Walk and Kerrymen’s Pub 5K road race were held in conjunction on Saturday to raise money for the Maine Cancer Foundation.

More than 1,000 runners and 2,000 walkers participated, record numbers for both events.

The events are in honor of Saco resident Mary Kerry Libby, who died of lymphoma in 1994 at age 44. They are held every year the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day.

Since their inception, the run and walk have raised more than $2 million.
