GUILFORD, Maine — Police are still seeking a man who stole drugs from a pharmacy at knife-point and took off in a U.S. Postal Service vehicle on Saturday.

Lt. Bob Young of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department said Monday that authorities have a “strong suspect in the case.”

“We recovered some evidence that will identify him,” said Young, who would not release the name of the suspect.

At 11:48 a.m. Saturday, Young said a man wearing a Carhartt one-piece jumpsuit, a bandanna over his face and gloves pulled up to Rite Aid in a pickup truck that had been stolen from Corinna the evening before.

The man, who had a hunting knife, jumped over the counter and stole narcotics, but no money was taken.

“It was a considerable amount [of drugs],” said Young, adding that the robber was out of the building in less than two minutes. “Rite Aid is still doing their inventory.”

While the robber was in the store, a person went outside and took the man’s pickup truck and hid it on him.

When the suspect came out of the store, he tried to steal two vehicles at knife-point but was unsuccessful. He then ran across the street to the post office and stole a van that was being loaded, Young said.

The van was found in Parkman on Harlow Pond Road, where Young said he believes a vehicle was waiting for the robber.

Early Monday afternoon authorities released a photo from a Rite Aid security camera showing the robbery in progress.

Young called the robbery “very bold,” and said this is the first pharmacy robbery in the county.

“Pharmacy robberies seem to be getting fairly common,” he said.

The suspect was described as being a male in his 20s, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing between 185 and 200 pounds.
