NEWPORT, Maine — Chris Dow was re-elected as a Newport selectman, while Matt Snowman was voted in for the first time.

Dow received 110 votes and Snowman had 94 votes in balloting on Friday. Incumbent Roger Carr received 64 votes and Richard Parlee had 37 votes.

“It feels pretty good,” said Snowman about being elected on his first try. He has been a Newport firefighter for three years.

“I just thought it was time to change and get a younger generation in there,” said the 32-year-old, who was sworn in on Saturday.

Richard Jacques narrowly defeated Rodney Webb 145-140 to be named the sanitary district trustee.

There was no clear winner for the RSU 19 director position, as all votes were write-ins. The Board of Selectmen instead will appoint a director.
