AUDREY E. (PINKHAM) MATHEWS

CHERRYFIELD – Audrey E. (Pinkham) Mathews, 92, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 8, 2012, surrounded by her family at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. Audrey was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Columbia, the daughter of Eldon and Edith (Sinclair) Pinkham.

After school she married Thurman A. Caler. Audrey was a hard worker and did many jobs. She cooked at Kennedy’s Drug Store & Restaurant, Cherryfield. Audrey also worked at L. Ray Packing Co., Milbridge, for many years, and Frost Mill, Mariaville, for seven years. She was a 4-H leader in her small community of Centerville, and was always ready and willing to help neighbors. Audrey spent her life doing for her family and many friends. She enjoyed cooking, canning, and handiwork. Audrey became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 2005 and enjoyed her church family very much.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, James "Dickie" Mathews; brother, Mac and his wife, Joyce, of Richmond; sister, Holly Carson of Yarmouth; two sons, Lemont Caler and his wife, Carole, and Earl Caler, all of Cherryfield; daughter, Margo Caler Rogers and her husband, Wayne, of Ellsworth; three grandsons, Scott and his wife, Hope, of Hancock, Kevin Rogers of Ellsworth and Randy Caler and his wife, Lorie, of Cherryfield; three great-grandchildren, Aaron Caler of Cherryfield, Amanda Caler, of Milbridge and Andrea Hartford and her husband, Shawn, of Columbia; three great-great-grandchildren, Gracie, Collin and Emily; several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Luanne Lovely of Danville, N.H.; and also one stepdaughter, Karen Henry of Warren, Ark. Audrey was predeceased by four brothers, Nick, Norris, Clint and Buddy Pinkham; one sister, Erma Flaherty; and one great-grandson, Paul Wayne Rogers.

Visiting hours are scheduled 5-7 p.m. Monday, March 12, at Milbridge chapel of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, where a funeral service will begin noon Tuesday, March 13, with Elder Bruce Teenan officiating. Interment will be afterward at Rock Maple Cemetery, Harrington. Remembrances may be donations to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
