ROCKLAND, Maine — James Raye has filed paperwork to become a candidate for the Maine House seat that represents Rockland and part of Owls Head.

Raye has filed with the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices his intent to run for the Republican nomination in House District 47. Raye served on the City Council from 1995 to 2001 and served as its mayor in 1999 and 2000. He is owner and operator of Raye Insurance in Rockland.

He is the second Republican to seek the seat. Gordon Mank Jr. of Rockland has filed his nomination papers with the Maine secretary of state to get on the June primary ballot.

Elizabeth Dickerson has filed her nomination papers to get on the Democratic primary ballot.

The seat is being vacated by Rep. Edward Mazurek, D-Rockland, who is unable to serve a fifth consecutive term because of the state’s term limits law.
