Author Rev. Kate Braestrup to speak at UMFK

FORT KENT, Maine — Best-selling author the Rev. Kate Braestrup will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at the teleconference room at Nadeau Hall at the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Braestrup, who was one of the first chaplain for the Maine Warden Service, will speak as part of UMFK’s Presidential Lecture Series. A Unitarian Universalist minister, Braestrup has penned three memoirs, “Here If You Need Me,” “Marriage and Other Acts of Charity” and “Beginner’s Grace: Bringing Prayer to Life.” She also has written a novel, “Onion.” For information, call 834-7586.

Belfast UU church plans online auction in May to raise funds

BELFAST — The Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast is planning to conduct its first online fundraising auction in May. Items for the auction are being solicited from members, friends and area businesses. The online auction will be accessed at, where there are the auction listings of many nonprofit organizations. At this site someone from Texas could purchase a certificate for a weekend at a Belfast bed and breakfast or someone from Portland might purchase a piece of art and pick it up in Belfast when convenient, according to a press release announcing the auction.
