Comments for: With Snowe out, free-for-all begins in multiple races

E-mailed statements began arriving at about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, half an hour after U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe shocked Maine’s political world by announcing she would not seek a fourth Senate term. Most of the statements expressed disbelief — disbelief that a senator of such clout, a senator who was …

My guess is somebody close to Sen. Snowe will get in; she waited until this point to make it as difficult as possible for others to organize in time for the deadline. If the Pingree twins both run I hope they both lose big time. That would be terrible for our state.

“A free-for-all begins”……certainly describes the political process on so many levels….”Whatever happens, it needs to happen quickly”…..the new “motto” for potential candidates…..

I would vote for Peter Mills. He is the only one who has done anything constructive in the last 6 months.

Time for the “Bozo’s” to enter the ring!

I for one who is not represented by Senator Snowe will miss the sensibility , and grace that she displayed on a daily basis and that is so lacking in Government today. Maine has always had, during my life time,Senators who are courageous enough to put America and Americans above their parties. She is after all the heir to Margret Chase Smith.

Where was  Mike Michaud when Snowe was still running??? Sure, let others go up against her. But now when there’s as lot better chance of winning…he’s thinking about jumping in. What a jerk!

Pingree will be the next Senator from Maine.  With Sussman’s money behind her and the influx of out of state money from the progressives, no one will stand a chance.

Just heard a radio pundit suggest that Snowe might run as the American’s Elect republican candidate for president with Dorgan as the democratic candidate.

That would be great. They can siphon off votes that would otherwise go to Obama, and help the Republicans win.

Not much time to put up a suitable candidate…can Cutler & King put up an indie; will Scot Ambrois be the default winner or swept aside by a major player; how fast can Sussman/Pingree/Monks get Chelly on the ballot and who will replace her?

…love that Olympia, always up for a debate, nearly always a winner………Governor Snowe?

How about Paul Viollette? He seems to have a good grasp of economics…

  • I look forward this this crapstorm around this whole process, let the circus begin…

I would like to correct an inaccuracy in your story. There is Like Snow or Collins no reason to call Scott Brown a Republican Scott Brown is a fraud who used the Tea Party to get his turncoat but elected and his 15 minutes of fame is over. Bye bye Scott We dont need a Rino when a real socialist is available

She may have meant well once. Senator Snowe’s greatest success, sadly for her
and us, has been the superb marketing of the “moderate” brand. Neither an
authentic moderate or conservative would stand before the press and defend
Verizon’s illegal spying on citizens (in violation of the Constitution) because
“the President told them to”! Nor would such a person plunge the country into
unnecessary wars which have bankrupted us morally and financially. Perhaps if
she begged forgiveness from the many thousands of American, Iraq and Afghanistan
war orphans and widows she may have a chance of forgiveness and redemption. Or
will she just quietly enjoy her millions and taxpayer funded retirement and full
    medical care
