Lincoln man indicted in 12 burglaries, 14 thefts

BANGOR, Maine — A Lincoln man was indicted Wednesday by the Penobscot County grand jury in connection with a dozen burglaries in the Lincoln area.

In addition to 12 counts of burglary, Peter R. Coggins, 22, was indicted on 14 counts of theft by unauthorized taking and one count of stealing drugs.

In most of the break-ins, Coggins took jewelry, according to Penobscot County District Attorney R. Christopher Almy, who is prosecuting the case. In one instance, Coggins also stole a gun, he said.

A rash of burglaries in and around Lincoln remains under investigation, the district attorney said Wednesday after the grand jury handed up indictments. Coggins could face additional charges, according to Almy.

Coggins was arrested Dec. 2 and charged with burglary and theft, according to a previously published report.
He remained Wednesday at the Penobscot County Jail, according to jail personnel.

If convicted, Coggins faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000 on each burglary charge and up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 on each theft charge.
