Voisine, Connolly propel Bears past Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — D.J. Voisine and Mike Connolly both turned in solid pitching efforts to propel the Maine Black Bears to a 5-3 baseball victory over Florida A&M Tuesday.

Neither pitcher gave up a walk while Voisine earned the victory after giving up four hits and one run with three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Connolly came on to pitch 4 2/3 innings and he gave up four hits and two runs and struck out eight.

Troy Black sparked 2-2 Maine with two singles and an RBI while Michael Fransoso, Fran Whitten and Justin Leisenheimer each drove in a run.

Maine scored its first run in the second inning when Whitten drove in Ian Leisenheimer, who had been hit by a pitch. The Bears tacked on another run in the next inning when Black reached on an error and scored on a Fransoso double.

Whitten singled to center in the fourth and came around to score on a Black single.

Maine plated another run in the sixth when Ian Leisenheimer singled and eventually scored on a fielder’s choice grounder by his brother, Justin Leisenheimer.

Pinch runner Sam Balanzo scored Maine’s final run in the seventh when Ian Leisenheimer reached on an error.

Jarryd Reid doubled twice, singled and drove in a run for Florida A&M, now 1-7.

The two teams meet again on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
