ROCKLAND, Maine — Residents of the six communities of RSU 13 can offer their recommendations on what the school district’s priorities should be for the next five years.

The district has scheduled a public forum for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, at Oceanside High School East in Rockland.

The district created a strategic planning team which over the last several weeks met to focus on the process for a five-year strategic plan. The committee consists of representatives from the staff, board, administration and community.

The district indicated in a news release that the strategic plan is intended to be a blueprint for action to ultimately identify priorities that will be adopted by the RSU 13 board and then implemented by administration and staff. The priorities will be accompanied by a set of leading measures that will track the progress and effectiveness of the district’s education system.

Areas of focus will entail teaching and learning; recruitment, retention and evaluation of staff; financial matters; facilities; community engagement; and development.

Public comment will influence the content of the strategic plan, the district stated.

Participants will engage in small-group discussions so that diverse and unique views existing within the community are recognized and included in the planning effort, the district states.
