ALNA, Maine — State Rep. Les Fossel, R-Alna, has announced that he is running for the District 20 Senate seat that recently was won by Democrat Chris Johnson of Somerville after the resignation of former Sen. David Trahan. The election is in November.

The District 20 Senate seat covers Lincoln County, except Dresden, plus the towns of Washington, Windsor and Friendship.

Fossel is in his second term in the House of Representatives and serves on the Legislature’s Health and Human Services, Judiciary and Government Oversight committees. Fossel also has served on several municipal- and county-level committees.

“I’ve always tried to bring people to work together to work on the serious challenges Maine faces,” said Fossel. “I believe that working with one another is the best way to serve our constituents.”

Earlier this month, Johnson won the District 20 seat over challenger Rep. Dana Dow, R-Waldoboro, with about 54 percent of the vote. Dow had secured his party’s nomination over Fossel to run for the seat. Trahan, a Waldoboro Republican, r esigned from the seat late last year when he took over as executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine.
