Lincolnville native Boetsch scores third-round upset victory at UFC 144

TOKYO — In what is being described as one of the greatest comebacks in mixed martial arts history, Lincolnvillle native Tim Boetsch rallied to score a technical knockout of Yushin Okami at 0:54 of the third round in their UFC 144 bout Saturday night.

Okami, who entered the bout in his home country ranked third among UFC middleweights and was coming off a loss to world champion Anderson Silva last August, used his boxing skills to dominate the action against Boetsch during the first two five-minute rounds.

But the Camden-Rockport High School product, a 4-to-1 underdog, battled through a series of facial cuts to pummel Okami to the ground during the third round in scoring his third straight victory since moving down to the 185-pound class last year.

The 31-year-old Boetsch is now 15-4-1 overall in his MMA career, 6-3 in the UFC. Okami is now 26-7 overall, 10-4 in the UFC.
