BANGOR, Maine — Central High of Corinth limited Bucksport to six points in the last 11 minutes, 45 seconds on Wednesday morning to claim a 34-24 Eastern Maine Class C girls basketball semifinal victory at the Bangor Auditorium.

The third-seeded Red Devils (16-3) meet the winner of Wednesday’s Calais-Narraguagus game in Friday’s 7:05 p.m. semifinal.

Central survived a stretch of 8:39 without a field goal in the second half by making nine free throws. Sam Brownell led the way with 11 points, 14 rebounds and two blocked shots.

Max McHugh posted 10 points and six rebounds, while Bri Skolfield posted five points and nine rebounds for the Red Devils, who outrebounded the Golden Bucks 45-32.

Shelby Redman paced No. 6 Bucksport (16-4) with six points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Bailey Blair added six points and four rebounds.

Central outscored Bucksport 14-4 from the foul line.

The Red Devils used a 10-0 scoring run in the first quarter to build a 16-7 halftime lead.

Central patiently ran its offense, trying to get the ball inside to post players Bri Skolfield and Sam Brownell. However, the Red Devils shot only 5 for 21 from the field and committed 10 turnovers against Bucksport’s man-to-man defense.

The Golden Bucks got some decent looks early, but found fewer openings after Central switched from man-to-man to a trapping 1-2-2 zone late in the first quarter. Bucksport went 3 for 18 from the floor and turned the ball over nine times.
