The Fort Kent boys and Freeport girls have captured the Class C state skiing titles after three days of competition at Mount Abram in Greenwood and Black Mountain in Rumford.

The Fort Kent boys totaled 260 points to win the boys title while Freeport recorded 153 points to record the girls crown. The lowest scores determine the winners as scores are based on each skier’s finish, with one point for first place, two for second and so on in ascending order.

The Freeport boys finished second with 309, followed by Telstar of Bethel (360) and Mountain Valley of Rumford (458).

The Fort Kent girls also turned in a strong effort with a second-place finish (161). They were followed by Mountain Valley (496) and John Bapst of Bangor (701).

Strong performances in the Alpine events propelled Fort Kent to the overall boys team title as the Warriors placed first overall in the combined team scores for the giant slalom and slalom with 68 points.

The Warriors had three skiers place in the top 10 in both of those events, sparked by Brandon Ouellette who placed fourth in the slalom and sixth in the giant slalom. Carter Voisine chipped in with a fifth place in the slalom and ninth in the giant slalom while Andrew Paradis placed seventh in both events.

The Fort Kent girls were led by strong overall efforts from Roxanne Pelletier, who won the skimeister title, awarded to the top skier who competes in all four championship events.

Pelletier placed third and fifth in the cross-country events, classical and freestyle, respectively. She also finished 12th in the giant slalom and 13th in the slalom. Three other Fort Kent skiers took the next three positions in the skimeister standings: Alexa Pelletier, Kate Morneault and Rudy Martin.

Nicholas Woods of Mountain Valley won the boys skimeister title with 50 points as he finished fourth in the giant slalom, 12th in the giant slalom and 20 and 14th, respectively, in cross-country freestyle and classical.

State titles are also being contested in Class B boys and girls skiing with Alpine events at Big Rock in Mars Hill and Nordic events at the Heritage Center in Presque Isle.

After two days of three events, the Yarmouth girls lead with 91 points, followed by Camden Hills (179), Mount Abram (183), Maranacook of Readfield (281), Caribou (314), Gray-New Gloucester (340), and Presque Isle (373).

The Yarmouth boys are also leading with 94 points and are followed by Maranacook (143), Cape Elizabeth (237), Caribou (260), Camden Hills (300), Mount Abram (301), Spruce Mountain of Jay (321), Gray-NG (332) and Presque Isle (459).

In the girls slalom, Elise Luce picked up her second straight victory after winning the giant slalom on Tuesday. Her sister, Erin Luce, finished second in both events.
