March Madness fundraiser organizers seek volunteers

SEARSPORT, Maine — In an effort to raise funds for treatment for a local woman who is fighting a rare brain disorder, a small group of friends have created a two-day March Madness event set for Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17, at various locations throughout town, including the town wharf and public buildings. Funds raised will pay for insurance co-pays, premiums, travel and lodging expenses for Jess Connor to go to New York, where she will undergo brain surgery. The surgery does not guarantee a cure, but it has been proven to relieve the majority of symptoms associated with the disorder with which Connor is dealing. Recovery time after surgery is three to six months.

March Madness activities will include a MAD Dash 3 run, Atlantic Ocean Deep Freeze

Polar Plunge, an auction by Bumpa’s Antiques and Collectibles, an Irish themed MAD Dash public supper cooking contest, a Death By Chocolate Dessert Bar, a chocolatier contest, Black Light Zumba by Curves of Belfast, a Black Light Block Party with Dueling DJ’s Debbie O’Leary and Dennis Abbott, a baby fair, craft fair, vendor demonstrations and samples, Keemy the Trick Pony, a children’s concert, a house of fun with bounce houses and more.

The March Madness committee needs volunteers, donations of items for the benefit auction, a band to play 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, March 16, at the bonfire, and business sponsors.

Registration is open for the Atlantic Ocean Deep Freeze Polar Plunge, MAD Dash 3K, Irish

themed MAD Dash Public Supper Cooking Contest, chocolatier contest, baby fair, alumni and current students basketball tournament players, and the craft fair.
