I can only imagine the outrage if a Republican was President.  With the Dems and Liberals controlling the air waves and press I’m surprised that we are reading anything of higher oil or gas prices.

    • Anonymous

I don’t believe I heard much of a peep as they went up the last decade, not until they were over $4 anyways….oh, and wasn’t the Republican Bush President, ah yes, he was…

      • Anonymous

tyler……You either have a short memory or a selective memory. When oil prices were climbing towards $4/bbl. the liberal press was all over Bush and company. Also, when Bush left office gas was at $1.84/gal.

        • Anonymous

So we won’t mention the 4 year preceding that when it was over $3 a gallon, Bush took office and it jumped 20 cents in his first quarter.

When Obama took office that was right after major banks had failed and the economy was tanking so of course the gas prices were low……what idiot didn’t think they would rebound to pre-recession levels…..

Obama wanted higher gas prices so we would buy his new car company’s (GM) useless Chevy Volt among other stupid ideas. Maybe we could heat our homes with liberal magic fairy dust and Unicorn powered treadmills …..
Vote Obama OUT of office next year and get this country moving again.http://blog.heritage.org/2011/01/07/gas-prices-under-president-obama-in-pictures/

Imagine a world where the fact that Iran is pissed at France and Britain would not force poor Americans to suffer from cold homes. That would be a world with Santorum as president, American oil resources being utilized, mid-East oil dependency lessened, and Iran in its place as America works from a position of strength.

And every gay and lesbian in their place too, huh?  No thanks.  I can see a charlatan who claims to be the arbiter of religion and virtue and using that to fleece the masses for his own gain.  If you expect what you claim, you will be endlessly disappointed with any leader in the real world.

I think the SSM issue will be resolved nationally within a few years. People are coming around to the fairness of allowing same sex couples to marry. That’s why I don’t worry about Santorum’s stance on homosexuality. Like birth control, this issue will be decided by popular opinion. Santorum is free to hold his own conscience, but he will be powerless to change law.
An argument can be made that he will impede gay rights if the opportunity arises. That bothers me. But no candidate out there is making me completely happy.

Using the bully pulpit, Mr. Santorum would likely make life very uncomfortable for the LGBT community.  He has made his career on anti-gay rhetoric.

Gay and lesbians should be in their places

Santorum will be a refreshing glass of bigotry to the angry mobs.

Yeah, Santorum would know how to talk to the Iranians.  One theocrat to another . . .

Obama is doing nothing about high oil prices, and he is cutting LiHeap funding. Where are all the shriekers claiming he wants to freeze children and grandparents to death?

    OK, Here’s a home heating Tip . . .
    WOOD PELLETS ! ! !

    and a stock market Tip . . .
    Buy low, Sell High!

  • You want to reduce the price, fine. Eliminate the speculators who keep these prices high thru their ‘Chicken Little’ screaming of doom and gloom festival’s. Anyone notice that as soon as speculators start making all kinds of press remarks that the oil process start going up almost instantly ? The reasons are fairly easy to see. Getting the solution to work is the tough part.

High gas and heating oil are caused by speculators, such as hedge funds. There is not enough underlying demand from consumers to justify these prices. Excuses such as Iran and Greece are smokescreens. Historically speculators accounted for 30% of trading in the futures markets while producers and processors accounted for 70%. Today speculators account for 70%. Unfortunately, they are a very powerful lobby so expecting change is probably wishful thinking. Power wins. Consumers lose.

Interesting article.  I am one that does not like the simple average price as it is less than what i pay.  If you are going to mention these conditions then show what the prices reflect in each area.  The average price of oil in all of Maine is $0.00 and is up in northern Maine $?.??.  This was real informative.

Since this is a regressive form of taxation on the poor, how long before Obama states that gas and oil are human rights, like health care? It’s funny how liberals feign support for the middle class only when it suits their ideology.

If you are interested in making a solid investment, convert your home to geothermal heating.  The rate of return on your investment has been proven to be much greater than any bank can offer.  Plus you can heat your home with 450% efficiency, compared to heating with oil at 80% efficiency.  We are seeing paybacks on systems in as little as 3 years, while saving customers on average 70% on their utility costs.  Americans do not need to be dependent on foreign oil any longer.  Support a local family owned business.  We are trained and experienced in designing and installing geothermal systems as well as photovoltaic electricty sources.  Call 942-4659 to find out more.  Or visit our website http://www.ELCOgeothermal.com.

“What about the greatest threat to all of us? Wall St’s
continued greed and avarice. They have manipulated oil up to $100 a barrel.
This is an enormous threat to the world’s economy! If you don’t know it; listen
up! Oil refineries all over the world are shutting down! Refineries in Hawaii,
St Croix, Houston, Philly, Delaware, other places in the US, and Europe are
shutting down! They are shutting down for three reasons (1) The price of oil is
too high. (Thanks speculators on Wall St!) (2) There is a glut of oil and
distillates and no place left to store it. Some refineries are turning into oil
storage facilities. They can make more money from renting tanks to banks and
hedge funds than they can make by producing product. (3) Due to the European
oil embargo on Iran, Iran is selling oil at a heavily discounted rate to Asian
refineries who will sell refined products to US cheaper than American
refineries can make them. Bottom line; WE ARE SO SCREWED!!! Repeal the
Commodities Modernization Act of 2000 and the Financial Modernization Act of
1999 and get speculators out of the Commodities markets!
