WINDHAM, Maine — Four Marshwood wrestlers captured individual state titles to propel the Hawks of South Berwick to the Class A state wrestling crown Saturday at Windham High School.
Tyler Davidson (113), Jackson Howarth (132), Cody Hughes (138) and Nicholas Janes (145) each captured a state title to help the Hawks compile a winning team score of 167.
Massabesic of Waterboro placed second with 109.5 points while Mt. Blue of Farmington (86.5), Skowhegan (86.5) and Cony of Augusta (56) rounded out the top five.
The Hawks were also aided by top-four finishes from four of its other wrestlers: Elliot Allen (second, 106), Trevor Smith (second, 126), Lucas Howarth (third, 152) and Nick Ricker (second, 285).
Brewer was bolstered by two individual titles from Victor Irwin, who captured the 195 class, and Marcus Eaton, who won the 285 division.
Other individual state champs included: Tyler Craig of Mt. Blue (106), Ian Whitis of Cheverus in Portland (120), Ethan Gilman of Massabesic (126), Jared Jensen of Brunswick (152), Graham Strondak of Westbrook (160), Caleb Farrington of Mt. Blue (170) and Josh Andrews of Massabesic (220).
The remaining team scores were Noble 51.5, Biddeford 41, Kennebunk 36, Westbrook 34, Windham 34, Portland 27, Cheverus 20, Brunswick 20, Nokomis of Newport 18, Mount Ararat of Topsham 12.5, Deering of Portland 10, Edward Little of Auburn 6, Sanford 5, Oxford Hills of South Paris 4, Erskine Academy of South China 3 and Greely of Cumberland Center 2.
