Central Aroostook cruises past Greater Houlton Christian

BANGOR, Maine — Mike McClung was the leader among a host of scorers as No. 2 Central Aroostook of Mars Hill rolled past Greater Houlton Christian Academy 88-62 in an Eastern Maine Class D quarterfinal Saturday night at the Bangor Auditorium.

Central Aroostook will face No. 6 Deer Isle-Stonington on Thursday at 2:05 p.m. The Mariners upset No. 3 Washburn 67-57.

Senior center McClung scored 21 points for the Panthers (18-2), freshman guard Chandler Brewer followed with 16, senior forward Brendan York registered 15 and junior forward Steven Decker had 14.

Micah Wiley did all he could for the Eagles (10-10) as he scored 26 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter. Ethan Holmes contributed 16 points and Deyrell Vargas tallied 10.

York scored 12 of his 15 points in the first quarter and McClung eight as the Panthers grabbed a 33-11 lead after one period. CAHS pushed the margin to 45 points in the third quarter, then emptied his bench in the fourth.
