BANGOR, Maine — Top-seeded Nokomis of Newport received a stiff test Saturday, but the Warriors used offensive balance and strong rebounding to hold off No. 7 Medomak Valley of Waldoboro 58-51 in an Eastern Maine Class B girls basketball quarterfinal at the Bangor Auditorium.

Undefeated Nokomis (19-0) advances to face No. 6 Old Town (14-6) in Wednesday’s 2:05 p.m. semifinal at the Auditorium.

On Saturday, coach Kori Dionne’s Warriors built a 15-point, first-half advantage, then had to fend off a determined charge by the Panthers (13-7).

Nokomis had beaten Medomak Valley 66-33 during the regular season, but the Panthers hung tough behind the determined hustle of senior guard Alanna Vose (game-high 24 points). Medomak Valley got as close as two points in the third quarter, but could not equalize.

Sophomore Anna Mackenzie led Nokomis with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Marissa Shaw contributed 14 points and six boards. Kelsie Richards tossed in 12 points, while Emilee Reynolds (5 rebounds) and Kylie Richards added eight points each.

The Panthers received nine points from Mallory Robbins, while Mallory Conary (7 rebounds) and Hannah Marks posted eight points each.
