BELFAST, Maine — A woman who allegedly helped steal about $100,000 worth of jewelry and goods in the course of a five-month crime spree and a man accused of breaking into a Belfast home and raping a young woman who lived there are among the 36 people indicted this week by the Waldo County grand jury.

Owen B. Allen, 41, of Belfast was indicted on charges of Class A gross sexual assault, Class B burglary, aggravated criminal trespass and assault. According to police, Allen reportedly broke into a home on Nov. 11, 2011, and wrapped duct tape around the head of the 18-year-old woman who was living there with her infant. He was familiar with the house, but did not know the woman whom he sexually assaulted, according to police reports. When Allen left, the woman called to report the attack to police, who helped her get to the hospital to be treated for her injuries and released. Officers were able to track down the alleged perpetrator and arrested him at his home the next day.

Also indicted by the Waldo County grand jury was Summer N. Ali Ariza, 29, of Rockport. She was charged with theft by unauthorized taking in the theft of jewelry worth more than $10,000 from a Belmont woman.

Ali-Ariza and Patrick Quinn, 36, were accused last fall of stealing about $100,000 in all from more than 50 homes along the Route 1 corridor in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The crime spree lasted five months, spanned three states and involved about a dozen police agencies, according to police reports. The couple sold stolen jewelry and coins to pawnshops and gold buyers across New England, police said.
