AUGUSTA, Maine — The leader of the Maine National Guard has postponed his address to lawmakers.

A spokesman says Adjutant Gen. John Libby is dealing with a family emergency, delaying what was supposed to be his first address to a joint session of the Legislature on Thursday.

He was expected to address defense, veterans and emergency management matters, while also recognizing Maine’s National Guard families that have lost loved ones during deployments since 2001.

A bill introduced last year and signed by Gov. Paul LePage this month authorizes legislative leaders to invite the adjutant general to appear annually and address a joint session.
