CARMEL – Gary Lee Bickford, 70, passed away Feb. 13, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born April 30, 1941, in Bangor, son of Leroy and Beulah (Mittenthal) Bickford.

Gary owned and operated Bickford Auto Body, a reputable and successful business for 40 plus years. He loved golfing and spending time with his golf buddies at Hermon Meadows Golf Course. Gary had a passion for, self taught, and mastered the art of woodworking and cabinetry. He enjoyed his many fishing trips with friends. In his earlier years, Gary enjoyed racing stock cars. He wanted to fly planes, so through persistence and dedication, which was indicative of his nature, he obtained a private pilot’s license. Gary enjoyed traveling and time spent on trips to Florida with his wife. More than anything Gary loved and supported his family.

He is survived by "his girls": loving wife of 33 years, Shirley (Jacobs) Bickford, and daughters, Belinda Hallett and husband, Rodney, of Milford, Kelley Oliver and partner, Mark Larson, of Guilford; "his boys": grandsons, Gary Swoboda and fiancee, Tiffany Despault, of Windham, Joseph Swoboda of Hermon and wife, Mandy Swoboda, of Levant, and Darren Swoboda and fiancee, Nikki Vincent, of Glenburn; stepgrandson, Shawn Hallett; four great-granddaughters, Madison, Lydia, Brooke and Harley; and brothers, Sonny Bickford and wife, Sue, of Corinth, William Bickford, and Charlotte of Cumberland-Foreside. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Caroline.

A gathering of remembrance will be held 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, in the upstairs banquet room of Bangor Motor Inn, 701 Hogan Road, Bangor.
