Cochran powers USM women past Plymouth State

GORHAM — Senior Courtney Cochran registered her 12th double-double of the season on the way to the 1,000th point of her career as the University of Southern Maine Huskies rolled to a Little East Conference win, 74-52 over Plymouth State Tuesday night

Cochran finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds for Southern Maine (19-5, 10-3 LEC), while Nicole Garland hit six 3-pointers en route to a game-high 22 points. Jordan Grant added 15 points for the winners.

Kellie Walsh paced Plymouth State (5-18, 1-12 LEC) with 17 points, four assists and three steals. Michaela Galvin chipped in with 12 points.

Husson 58, UM-Farmington 57

At Farmington, Kelli Murray scored a layup with 1:10 left to put the Eagles ahead for good, then made two free throws with 12 seconds remaining to lift them to a North Atlantic Conference win.

Murray finished with a team-high 19 points, six rebounds and three assists for Husson University of Bangor (13-10, 13-3 NAC). Amanda Gifford contributed 11 points and six steals, Marissa Albert tallied 10 points and five rebounds and Bre Hanscom added nine points and five rebounds.

Emma Morrison scored a game-high 21 points to lead the University of Maine-Farmington (9-14, 8-9 NAC). Holly Oliver chipped in with 10 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five steals.

MMA 82, Thomas 47

At Waterville, Sam Goda scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds to help Maine Maritime Academy cruise by the Terriers.

Casey McCloskey chipped in with 15 points and seven rebounds for 12-12 MMA of Castine while Bekah Campbell contributed with 10 points and five rebounds. Leah Jackson had eight rebounds.

Karin Bird paced 5-19 Thomas with 14 points.

Men’s Basketball

Husson 74, UM-Farmington 70

At Farmington, Phil Leighton scored 12 points to pace a balanced offensive effort that helped the Eagles knocked the Beavers out of first place in the North Atlantic Conference.

Wes Murphy tossed in 11 points and Daeshawn McMorrin provided 10 for Husson University of Bangor (12-11, 11-5 NAC), which went 9-for-18 on 3-pointers. Luis Medina contributed nine points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Ben Johnson logged a double-double with a game-high 26 points and 13 rebounds for the University of Maine-Farmington (15-9, 14-3 NAC). Joe McCloskey posted 11 points and 14 rebounds and Yusuf Iman added 14 points.
