ROCKLAND, Maine — The Maine Lobster Festival continued its tradition of giving back to the community by making a donation Monday, Feb. 13, for the Rockland Recreation Center.

Festival President Tim Carroll handed Rockland city councilors a check for $32,600 to go toward repairs made to the Rockland Recreation Center. The recreation center was renovated two years ago with a new gym floor and bleachers.

Carroll noted the festival has long supported youth programs in the community.

Mayor Brian Harden praised the volunteer organization that puts on the Maine Lobster Festival during the first weekend of August each year.

“The city appreciates what the festival does every year,” the mayor said.

City Manager Tom Luttrell noted the city will be seeking bids in March for more work on the recreation center, aimed at preventing water from leaking into the building. Voters in November approved borrowing up to $675,000 for renovations to the 1935-built center.
