Two teenagers arrested together again

BANGOR, Maine — Two teenagers caught trying to steal candy from Ocean State Job Lot in December were arrested together again last week, this time for breaking into cars at Hollywood Slots Hotel & Raceway, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday.

Justin Amos, 19, a transient, and Kyle Haynie, 18, of Winterport were seen on video surveillance cameras opening vehicle doors in the Hollywood Slots parking garage about noon Friday and were stopped shortly afterward just down the street by Lt. Tim Reid.

Both were charged with burglary to a motor vehicle and each faces a second individual charge. Amos, who was out on bail, was charged with violating his bail conditions and Haynie, who had a set of brass knuckles in his back pocket, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, Edwards said.

The duo were both arrested and charged in December with theft and carrying a concealed weapon after police found a knife that “easily flipped open with one hand” inside Amos’ jacket and Haynie with a “slap jack,” a thin metal plate wrapped in leather, according to a previous Bangor Daily News story.

Both also have prior convictions, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News. Haynie was convicted of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct last summer and sentenced to 48 hours in jail. Amos, who was arrested on Jan. 24 and charged with burglary to a motor vehicle, was convicted of sale and use of drug paraphernalia in December and sentenced to pay a $300 fine, BDN archives state.

Amos and Haynie were taken to Penobscot County Jail after their arrests Friday. Amos has been released but Haynie remained in jail Tuesday afternoon, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
