GUILFORD and DOVER-FOXCROFT – Margaret Goulette, 88, peacefully left her earthly body Feb. 12, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at Hibbard’s Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft, after a courageous battle with dementia. She was born July 29, 1923, in Guilford, daughter of Earl Thurston Palmer Sr. and G. Bernice Chase.

Margaret attended schools in Guilford and graduated from Foxcroft Academy, class of 1941. After a civil service exam, she went to work in Washington, D.C., at the Pentagon under Gen. George C. Marshall until the end of World War II. She was always proud of her work during those years and the friendships she maintained with the "girls," many from back home whom also worked in Washington, D.C. She then returned home to marry the love of her life, Eugene P. Goulette, June 29, 1946. In 1953, they moved to Guilford where they owned and operated an IGA store and raised four children. Margaret was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and a past member of Zephyrus Club of Guilford. She was a talented seamstress who often made costumes for her children’s school plays and Halloween parties; she was an excellent cook in high demand for cookies and cakes for school holiday parties to artistically decorated wedding cakes. She was an avid reader and her favorite place on earth was her camp on Sebec Lake.

Margaret is survived by her four children: daughter, Laurine "Renie" Goulette and her companion, Peter McKusick, of Blanchard, and sons, James and his wife, Eileen, of Port Charlotte, Fla., Thomas and his wife, Pam, of Guilford, and Joseph and his sweetheart, Kathy, of Pleasanton, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Vernita and her husband, Hank Gajewski, of Dover, N.H., and Virginia and her husband, Ken Veazie, of Corinna; 13 grandchildren, Julie and husband, Ed Therrien, Kristen French, Jimmy French and companion, Megan Ryder, Pierre Goulette and his wife, Jill, Angelique and her husband, Mark Mathers, Debbie and her husband, Michael Becker, Trisha and her husband, Jason Monroe, Lisa McCutcheon, Nancy and her husband, Dennis Proulx, Blake Goulette and his wife, Mary, Graham Goulette and his wife, Jen, Lindsay and her husband, Luke Hartwell, and Ross Mitchell-Goulette; special niece, Pat Suomi; and very special friends, Mim Smith and Judy Dyer. She was predeceased by her husband, Gene; parents; brothers, Earl T. Jr., Philip and Gerald; sister, Geraldine Wilson; grandson, Cameron Mitchell-Goulette; many brothers and sisters-in-law. Mom will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but we are comforted in the knowledge that the day she so longed for has now arrived and she has rejoined her beloved husband in glory.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Dover-Foxcroft, with Father Kent Ouellette, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Activity Fund, care of Hibbard Nursing Home, P.O. Box 159, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426; Guilford Memorial Library, P.O.
