BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police Officer Mike Brennan was called early Saturday to Husson University to help deal with a party that campus security officials believed involved underage drinking, Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.

Brennan found three students at around 1:15 a.m. who appeared intoxicated and one was “giving the officer a hard time, swearing and such,” the sergeant said.

The disruptive student, Axel Lee, 20, of Bangor, was given a disorderly conduct warning.

After Brennan was able to determine all three students were intoxicated and underage, he told them he was going to charge them with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor through consumption.

At that point, “he heard security saying, ‘Don’t do it’ and he observed [Lee] smashing a wooden chair on the floor,” Edwards said.

Lee was charged with disorderly conduct and taken to Penobscot County Jail. He has since been released, the sergeant said.
