BANGOR, Maine — Neighbors of Ashley Steward on Ohio Street called police Thursday night to complain about her arguing loudly with her boyfriend. She was arrested shortly after police warned them to quiet down and she continued to yell, Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt said Friday.

The couple was given a disorderly conduct warning by Officer Chris Blanchard, who left the residence but waited outside because she continued to be loud, the lieutenant said.

“She was swearing and yelling and getting louder with each sentence,” Hunt said.

Steward’s boyfriend could be heard telling her to quiet down, but she apparently did not take his advice, the lieutenant said.

“After four or five minutes of listening, the officer knocked on the door and arrested her for disorderly conduct,” Hunt said.

Steward, 28, has a number of convictions, according to Bangor Daily News archives.

Steward was living in Calais in early 2011 when she was convicted of assault and spent five days in the Washington County Jail in May 2011, a jail official said. She returned to the jail three times in the next month for violating her bail conditions, the last time for nearly a month, the official said.

She also was convicted of burglary in 2007 and sentenced to eight months in jail with all but four months suspended, as well as theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, which resulted in a four-month concurrent sentence, the BDN listings state. Her other convictions are for disorderly conduct, refusing to submit to arrest, violating conditions of her release, operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license, negotiating worthless instrument and theft, the BDN listings state.

Steward was taken to the Penobscot County Jail on Thursday night and later was released, a jail official said Friday. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
