ALBION, Maine — A Palermo man was killed instantly when the truck he was driving rolled over and broke a utility pole Wednesday evening, police said Friday.

Earl Van Norman, 55, was traveling at a high rate of speed on the Drake Hill Road when he lost control of his 2008 Dodge pickup at the crest of a hill, crossed the centerline, hit a ditch, rolled over and broke a Central Maine Power Co. utility pole, according to Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Mike Pion.

“We believe alcohol was involved,” said Pion. The call came in at 5:34 p.m. Wednesday.

Pion said Van Norman was the only person in the vehicle and he wasn’t wearing a seat belt. No one witnessed the crash.
