ELLSWORTH, Maine — An Ellsworth man arrested last summer on drug charges after police followed his vehicle to Aroostook County and back is one of a dozen people who have been indicted this month by a Hancock County grand jury.
Craig Strout-Desmond, 25, was indicted Feb. 2 on charges of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.
According to Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officials, last August a state trooper relayed a tip to MDEA agents that Strout-Desmond and a woman he was with were about to leave the Ellsworth area with the intent of picking up prescription drugs they later would sell.
Agents found the pair and followed their vehicle from Ellsworth into Bangor and north on Interstate 95. The couple reportedly left the interstate in Lincoln and traveled back roads through Penobscot and Washington counties before stopping at Strout-Desmond’s grandfather’s home in the Aroostook County town of Orient.
The vehicle then was followed back to Ellsworth, where it was stopped and searched around midnight, MDEA officials have said.
Agents reportedly seized 170 tablets of the prescription painkiller oxycodone from a plastic bag in the center console of the vehicle. The drugs are valued at about $3,400, according to MDEA.
