ELLSWORTH, Maine — The Marden’s store is getting a new neighbor, although company officials remain mum about who that neighbor is.
Marden’s Surplus and Salvage has negotiated an agreement with another retailer to share the building located on Route 3 on the edge of Ellsworth’s commercial district.
Craig Burgess, general manager of the Marden’s chain, said it was still too early to name the future occupant on Wednesday but said it was a major “national retailer” that will complement Marden’s. He said he anticipates the future tenant to move into the space by mid- to late summer.
“We are excited about being able to bring them,” Burgess said.
Marden’s relocated to the building in 2010 after Wal-Mart built a new superstore nearby. The store’s merchandise now occupies much of the store’s interior showroom, however, the area formerly occupied by Walmart’s home and garden department is not used for commercial space.
