BATH, Maine — Workers in Bath Iron Works’ Ultra Hall on Washington Street were evacuated briefly Tuesday morning when an employee noticed smoke and triggered a fire alarm, but there was no damage and no one was hurt.

BIW spokesman James DiMartini said the smoke was seen around a filter system that is designed to pull smoke out of the work space. Despite the fire alarm, no fire departments were called to the scene. DiMartini said there was no fire, no damage and that employees returned to work within about 20 minutes.

“All the proper procedures were followed perfectly,” said DeMartini.
