ORONO, Maine — An underage and intoxicated Massachusetts man told police he took several wrong turns early Saturday before he ended up in the bushes just around the corner from his local residence, Orono police Sgt. Scott Scripture said Monday.

Police found Nathaniel Williams, 20, of Marblehead, Mass., around 2:15 a.m. standing outside his crashed silver car near the junction of Pond and Crosby streets.

“Williams advised he took a wrong turn, a couple of times,” Scripture said.

Three beers were found in Williams’ car, he failed a field sobriety test, and an Intoxilyzer test showed his blood alcohol level exceeded the state’s limit of 0.08, the sergeant said. He was arrested for operating under the influence, operating without a license, for being underage and driving drunk, and illegal transportation of alcohol by a minor, Scripture said.

Williams was taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor and later released, the sergeant said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
