BANGOR, Maine — A Rockport man pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to robbing a Millinocket pharmacy last summer.

Nicholas Skoby, 29, pleaded guilty to two counts: interference with commerce by robbery and using, carrying or brandishing a firearm in connection with a crime of violence.

U.S. District Judge John Woodcock ordered that Skoby be held without bail pending sentencing.

By pleading guilty, Skoby admitted that he demanded cash and pills from a pharmacist at Rite Aid on Aug. 29. He also showed the pharmacist the butt of a gun stuck in the waistband of his pants, then led police on a high-speed chase, according to the prosecution version of events to which he pleaded guilty.

Skoby left the store with 142 oxycodone pills, 160 tablets of Ritalin and $586 in cash, according to court documents.

At Monday’s hearing, he also agreed to forfeit the 9 mm handgun seized when he was arrested less than 40 minutes later.

Skoby was indicted in November by a federal grand jury in Bangor. He pleaded not guilty that same month.

He originally was charged in September in state court with two counts of robbery, eluding an officer, failure to stop for an officer and driving to endanger.

The robbery charges most likely will be dropped now that he has pleaded guilty to the federal charges.

A sentencing date will not be set until a presentencing report has been prepared by U.S. Pre-trial and Probation Services.

Skoby faces up to 30 years in prison on the robbery charge. He also faces a mandatory additional five years for carrying the gun and showing it to the Rite Aid employee or a mandatory additional seven years if it is proven he brandished the weapon.
