Camden Hills rolls to KVAC championship

AUGUSTA, Maine — Camden Hills of Rockport crowned five individual champions en route to a dominant victory Saturday at the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference wrestling championships held at Cony High School.

The Class B Windjammers totaled 259 points, well ahead of second-place Cony, the Class A winner with 136 points — one point better than Mt. Blue of Farmington (135). Skowhegan was fourth with 103.5 points, followed by Belfast (74.5) and Nokomis of Newport (65) as the top six finishers in the 20-school field.

Camden Hills got individual championships from Neal Harrison-Billiat at 145 pounds, then dominated the upper weight classes as Ryan Graffam (170), Anthony Batty (182), Brandon Graffam (195) and Rhett Chase (220) each won his weight class.

Brandon Graffam also scored his 100th career victory during the meet.

Coach Levi Rollins’ Windjammers also had second-place finishers in each of the five lowest weight classes en route to winning its second straight conference title as James Archer (106), John Underhill (113), Connor Winchenbach (120), Calan Bragg (126) and Coleman Powers (132) each reached the championship final.

Camden Hills Jack Hauprich won the consolation final at 160 pound to finish third in his weight class, and Max Bryant (138) and Jarred Gilbert (152) each finished fourth to give the Windjammers 12 top-four finishers.

Cony had just one individual champion, 285-pound Steven Morse, while Mt. Blue had two winners in Tyler Craig (106) and Khalil Newbill (120).

Skowhegan also had two individual winners in John Swett (113) and Christian Jackson (160), while Kaleb Brown (138) and Levi Hayden (182) each finished second for the Indians.

Belfast was led by Brent Waterman, the 132-pound champion, while Nokomis got third-place efforts from Zack McFarlin (182) and Jacob Nichols (285).

Other individual champions were Gary Stevens of Morse of Bath (126), Dan DelGallo of Gardiner (138) and Jared Jensen of Brunswick (152).

Jensen was named the Class A outstanding wrestler, and DelGallo earned those honors for Class B.

Shawn Totman of Cony was named the KVAC Class A coach of the year, while Rollins was the honoree in Class B.
