ELLSWORTH, Maine — A man accused of stealing several thousand dollars’ worth of metal was one of two men arrested Thursday by the Police Department.
In a separate incident, Ellsworth police arrested a Franklin man on drug and driving charges.
According to a statement released by Ellsworth Police Department, Daniel Lindsey, 32, of Ellsworth was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of theft after he allegedly stole $3,000 worth of metal from a Bucksport Road property. Lindsey is accused of then selling the metal to a recycling business in Orrington, police said in the statement.
According to Ellsworth police Lt. Harold Page, the metal consisted of old vehicle and tractor parts and was taken from someone’s private storage trailers. The items were not recovered, he said.
Lindsey is due to appear in Hancock County Superior Court on a Class C theft charge on March 22. A conviction on a Class C charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $5,000.
In an unrelated case, a Franklin man was arrested around 11 p.m. Thursday after Ellsworth police stopped his vehicle for having an expired registration sticker.
In that incident, Officer Chad Wilmot arrested Del Ditton, 41, on charges of operating a motor vehicle without a license, unlawful possession of prescription drugs and possession of a usable amount of marijuana, according to a police report summary on the arrest. Ditton is accused of illegally possessing the prescription medication Tramadol and 1.3 grams of marijuana. Additional information about Ditton’s arrest was unavailable Friday afternoon.
Both men have since bailed out of Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth, according to jail officials. Lindsey was released on $1,000 unsecured bail and Ditton was released on unspecified personal recognizance bail, officials said.
