John Bapst junior to sing at Carnegie Hall

John Bapst Memorial High School student Christina Long will be in the spotlight twice next weekend — she’ll be on “The Nite Show” with Dan Cashman at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, and then she’ll take the stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Sunday, Feb. 12.

The young vocalist will sing “Ave Maria” on “The Nite Show” next weekend. On Sunday, she’ll perform as part of the American High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall. The series is an annual five-day program for young musicians in which they get to work with professors and other music professionals to ready them for college.

“We heard about Christina when news came out that she would be performing at Carnegie Hall in the American High School Honors Performance Series,” said Cashman. “But when we heard her actually perform live, we were all blown away. I cannot wait to see her on ‘The Nite Show.’”

Long is from Orono and is in her junior year at John Bapst. In addition to Christina’s performance, WABI-TV 5 news anchor Jon Small will chat with Cashman about his new role as University of Maine hockey TV play-by-play announcer and the two of them will perform a piece of music.

“It’s not very good,” said Cashman, referring to the “duet” between the two. “We both played a musical instrument in high school, and we’ll be putting that on display Saturday night … but don’t get your hopes up. Christina is a far more talented musician. Jon and I will stick to our day jobs.”
