BEDDINGTON, Maine — Emergency responders spent hours at the scene of a rollover crash involving a truck hauling propane on Route 9 on Wednesday.
Only minor injuries were reported by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. While there was a fire at the scene, it did not involve propane.
The accident happened at 9 a.m. on Route 9, about 1.5 miles east of Route 193.
Sgt. Timothy Tabbutt of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department said that the accident prompted the temporary closure of the affected section of Route 9 and that traffic was being detoured around the crash site via Route 193.
Route 9 did not reopen to traffic until about shortly before 9:30 p.m., Tabbutt said.
Officials with Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. reported that about 175 customers in Beddington, Cherryfield and Devereaux Township were expected to be without power until 11 p.m. or midnight, according to an update issued Wednesday night by Bangor Hydro spokeswoman Susan Faloon.
Bangor Hydro crews had to wait for the propane to be removed from the scene before they began replacing several utility poles that were knocked down.
