GORHAM — The Southern Maine Huskies took an 11-point halftime lead and then held off Colby College for a 73-67 victory in a showdown between two of the state’s best Division III basketball programs Tuesday night.
Haley Jordan scored 23 points, including 13 of 16 from the line, and added five rebounds for the 16-4 Huskies. Nicole Garland chipped in wiht 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Courtney Cochran added 13 points and five rebounds.
Jil Vaughan paced 13-5 Colby with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Aarika Ritchie added 10 points and five assists and Jen Nale contributed 15 points.
Bowdoin 65, ECSU 45
At Brunswick, Jill Henrikson poured in 25 points on an 8-for-15 shooting effort from the field with 4-of-4 free throws to spark Bowdoin.
Anna Prohl added 12 points for the 15-5 winners and Amy Hackett chipped in with eight points and four rebounds. Henrikson also grabbed nine rebounds.
Kristina Forsman paced 6-14 Eastern Connecticut State with 23 points.
UNE 80, Curry 64
At Milton Mass., the University of New England took a three-point halftime lead then outscored Curry 49-36 in the second to improve to 15-4.
Margo Russell scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead UNE and Lauren Rousseau added 13 points. Kari Pelletier and Kelly Coleman each chipped in with 11 points and Liz LeBlanc had four assists.
Kylie Beltz and Hailey Rafferty each scored 14 points to lead 7-12 Curry.
Bates 88, UMPI 51
At Lewiston, swarming defense and offensive ball movement carried Bates to its most dominating victory since early December.
Lauren Dobish scored a game-high 17 points to lead 9-11 Bates while Molly Brown and Allie Beaulieu each added 14. Brown also had eight rebounds. Annie Burns notched nine assists.
Olivia McNally paced 8-11 UMPI with 11 points, Emily Pelletier added 10 and Becca Campbell netted nine. Rashell Saucier grabbed eight rebounds and Amber Cloutier had four assists.
Bowdoin 94, Thomas 83
At Waterville, Will Hanley scored 22 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, achieving a Bowdoin rebounding milestone, to help the Polar Bears tame the Terriers.
Hanley is the first Bowdoin player in 25 years to record 20 rebounds in a game, a feat last achieved by Joe Williams in 1988 against Babson.
Andrew Madlinger chipped in with 15 points for 14-5 Bowdoin while Bryan Hurley and Ryan O’Connell added 14 apiece.
Jarrad DeVaughn paced 10-8 Thomas with 25 points.
Anna Maria 53, St. Joe’s 50
At Standish, the AMCATS used a 9-0 scoring surge midway through the second half to record the victory.
Anthony Click turned in a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead 8-11 Anna Maria.
Chris Petzy led 13-5 St. Joe’s with 20 points and Matthew Medeiros added 14. Zach O’Brien chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.
