ORONO, Maine — An Orono Middle School student was charged Monday afternoon with two drug offenses after police found marijuana and a pot pipe in his bedroom, police Capt. Josh Ewing said Tuesday.

“We had information that a 14-year-old possibly had drugs in his room at his house,” the captain said.

Police went to the boy’s house just before 1 p.m. Monday and “the father gave us permission to search the room,” Ewing said, adding that the teenager produced a key to unlock a suspicious box that police found.

Inside the box was a usable amount of marijuana, a marijuana pipe and a grinder, the captain said.

The teen, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

“Someone at the school alerted the school resource officer and they alerted us,” Ewing said.
