Man robs convenience store at gunpoint, remains at large

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

PORTLAND, Maine — Maine’s largest city was hit with its second convenience store robbery in less than 24 hours Thursday, and the suspect remains at large, according to police.

Portland police Lt. Gary Rogers said a man walked into the Quality Shop on Stevens Avenue just before 8 p.m., threatened the clerks with a handgun and told them to get down on the floor.

The man’s face was concealed with a white scarf, and he fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, Rogers said.

Nobody was injured in the robbery, and one customer was in the store at the time.

The robbery occurred in the wake of an incident at Cumberland Farms on Pine Street Wednesday, and that suspect is still on the loose.

Anyone with information on either robbery is asked to contact Portland police at 874-8749.
