BANGOR, Maine — Republicans from 24 communities in Penobscot County will gather on Saturday, Feb. 4, for a joint Super Caucus at Husson University.

The caucus begins at 1 p.m. and is open to registered Republicans from the following towns and cities: Alton, Bangor, Bradford, Bradley, Brewer, Carmel, Clifton, Corinth, Eddington, Etna, Exeter, Glenburn, Greenbush, Hampden, Hermon, Holden, Hudson, LaGrange, Milford, Newburgh, Old Town, Orono, Orrington and Veazie.

Maine Republican Party rules require that each town hold a caucus, elect members to their county committee, organize to elect delegates and alternates to the state convention set for May 5-6 in Augusta, and prepare for elections.

“But often folks at the municipal level do not have advice at hand to navigate through the state election laws and by gathering in one place, the resources are there if they have compliance questions,” Penobscot County GOP Chairwoman Traci Gauthier said in announcing the event.

“Plus it gives our candidates a chance to address party activists instead of having to go town by town,” she said.

Candidates are invited and will have an opportunity to speak. A presidential preference poll will be conducted during the caucus. Each community’s results will be reported to the Republican Party state headquarters, which will announce the statewide tally on Feb. 11 in Portland.

The caucus result is nonbinding. During the state Republican convention, delegates chosen at the caucuses will elect the Maine’s delegates to the GOP National Convention.

For information about the Super Caucus, call Lois Bloomer at 848-5028. Any Penobscot County community not listed above that wants to participate should call Gauthier at 290-2035.
